Tips to Implement Remote Learning at Your School

Updated: Aug 13, 2020

The way we work has evolved into a completely new form in the last few months, and in the coming months, things are expected to change a bit more.

Educational institutions around the world are adapting to new ways to educate their students. Remote learning has become the new norm.

However, many educational institutions are labelling sending recorded videos and audios on the instant messaging platform as 'remote learning'.

But mind you, that's not what we call remote learning.

What is Remote Learning?

Remote learning allows students to access learning resources from a remote location through the internet. An ideal cycle of one class of remote learning begins from a live session, followed by resource sharing and ends with the measurement of the learning.

To disappoint you, we want to tell you, 'downloadable meetings' also don't qualify as 'remote learning'.

How to Make Remote Learning Effective at Your School?

Offer a Blended Learning Experience

In-person interactions are the only missing thing to remote learning. To make sure that students don't feel the absence of their teacher's physical presence, offer the blended learning experience.

Blended learning refers to the mode of education in which students learn through electronic, online medium and face to face interactions.

To make sure that students don't feel the absence of face to face interactions with the teachers, once in a week, class teachers can hold individual discussion sessions with the individual students.

Individual interactions will help teachers understand the problems faced by students which they might not tell otherwise.

Ensure the Ease of Accessibility

When your students are learning from home, teachers lose a certain amount of influence and control over them.

Teachers should keep this in mind while preparing your teaching strategy. The reduced influence of teachers on students creates a greater scope of distraction for them. They can also resort to cheating during tests.

To avoid such situations, if your school is not already using an LMS (Learning Measurement System) like Wizar.io, consider using it. Learning Measurement Systems reduce the scope of distraction and cheating.

Also, while selecting an LMS, it's significant to keep in mind that most of your students will use a mobile phone to access it. Therefore, choose an LMS which is mobile optimized and offers mobile responsive assessment content.

Incorporate Gamified Learning for Engagement

Keeping students engaged throughout a remote class can be a big challenge. And, if teachers fail to keep them engaged, they'll get distracted and it'll affect their learning.

Also, because there is no in-person interaction, teachers can't do much to encourage or influence students.

However, if your school has a great LMS, most of the engagement issues will be easily taken care of. An LMS offers a gamified learning experience which keeps students engaged, while also helps them to learn new concepts.

You can also share activity sheets, PPTs, worksheets, etc. to keep your students engaged.

Encourage Peer Interaction

There should be a reserved time in each class for students to interact, share ideas and learning with each other. As students have not met their classmates for a long time, they might feel isolated. To cheer up students, give them some time to have discussions with each other.

To do that, you can form groups of students, and assign each group some task. To do it digitally, you can take the help of a chat room in your LMS.

After your students finish their task, recognise and appraise their efforts, while giving insights on their performance.
